How is mice and men an allegory

On the surface he seems as though he may be the good man but this is quickly evaporates as he dismisses his wife so brashly and harps on all of his own misfortunes to his customers. Each character George and Lenny meet tells a different version of the same story. It is the story of someone who believes he has outlived his usefulness and has no longer has a place in the world.

To survive, these characters prey on those weaker than themselves. Just as Curley treats his wife as if she is nothing to him to make himself feel as if he is a better person. He makes her known as a temptress, or many other awful names. An action like kindness comes naturally. Sadly throughout the story this can be found in many ways, the hurt that is.

Relationships Among Organisms Relationships… not the average kind of relationships that come to mind. Relationships occur in nature, and they can come from several different encounters. In Of Mice and Men, a realistic fiction novella by John Steinbeck numerous relationships between the characters occur.

Carlson is symbolic of people who are oblivious to the feelings of others, and who can only be concerned about something if it affects them personally. Slim is symbolic of the archetype of the hero, king, or leader. He represents those few who, in their wisdom and strength, seem larger than life. George is symbolic of "the everyman" — the type of normal, average person who is found everywhere and whose feelings and actions are neither exceptional nor terrible.

It is a safe sanctuary to meet and a place free from society, where Lennie and George can be themselves.

What happens in the grove stays in the grove. This is where the story is born and where the dream farm and Lennie meet their end. The bunkhouse represents the spot where conflict is most evident. Cruelty, violence, jealousy, and suspicion all arise here. Here we see the most obvious manifestations of discrimination: name calling, isolation, fear, and the threat of death.

Lennie reluctantly reached into his pocket. Just stroking it. Therefore, he still has hope for them and continues to collect mice but he always ends up crushing and killing them.

This story is a lot about survival and the will to keep moving forward. The common dream which Lennie and George share of owning heir own ranch is a motivation and a reason for them to keep living so that maybe one day they would wake up to a better world where their dreams will be fulfilled.

On their imaginary ranch, Lennie continually mentions tending the rabbits. I think that the rabbits are also an allegory and a metaphor which symbolizes the true reality. He likes living the unknown life hiding inside his shell, not wanting to come out because it is nice and warm inside where his life is simply perfect. Millions of them. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. If them other guys gets in jail they can rot for all anybody gives a damn.
